Holdfast Tattoo Minor Piercing Policy

Minor Piercing Policy

In accordance with New Hampshire State Law (RSA 314-A:8)

At Hold Fast Tattoo, we are committed to maintaining the highest professional, legal, and ethical standards when working with minors. We care about safety, consent, and proper documentation, and we do not take our responsibilities lightly.

Age Requirements

The minimum age for any piercing other than earlobes at Hold Fast Tattoo is 14 years old. For minors 14-16 we will perform helix and  second lobes. 16+ for navel, nostril, eyebrow  and most other ear work

Tattooing or branding is strictly prohibited for anyone under the age of 18 under New Hampshire state law. This applies in all cases, even with parental or legal guardian consent.

Piercings for minors under the age of 18 may only be performed with a parent or legal guardian physically present at the time of the procedure. Consent must be given in person and accompanied by proper documentation.

Our minimum age for earlobe piercings is 8 years old. Exceptions can be made to this with an in person consultation.

Parent or Guardian Consent and Presence

For minors below the age of 18 years old, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the piercee and remain in the studio throughout the entire procedure. This is not negotiable. Verbal consent, phone calls, or notarized documents submitted without the guardian present do not meet legal or studio requirements.

Required Documentation

To proceed with a piercing for a minor, the following original documentation is required:

A valid photo ID for the minor, such as a passport, school ID, or driver’s permit

A valid government-issued photo ID for the parent or legal guardian (state law does allow a picture of the yearbook so long as the name matches the birth certificate)
The original birth certificate of the minor, or legal documentation proving guardianship

Photocopies, digital scans, or previously notarized forms are not accepted in place of the above.

What We Do Not Allow

We do not tattoo or brand anyone under the age of 18, under any circumstance.

We do not perform piercings on minors without the parent or legal guardian physically present and providing full documentation.

We do not accept any substitute for in-person, legal consent with all required documents.

Why This Policy Exists

This policy is designed to comply fully with New Hampshire RSA 314-A:8 and to uphold the professional standards of our studio. It is in place to protect minors, maintain legal compliance, and preserve the integrity of our work. We do not make exceptions.

We understand that these requirements may be more strict than some studios, but they reflect our commitment to safety, legality, and long-term healing success.
